Turning the impossibly thin and long site between a shopping mall and a gorgeous lake into a new model for easy living between city and nature. By using the building volume to extend the facade length to a maximum, apartments with unique qualities appear: a huge variety of different apartment types with the amazing view as their common denominator. The manipulation of the building volume creates generous south-facing private terraces, while a common terrace with paddle tennis court, rental apartments for visitors, a common sauna and two restaurants adds urban qualities to the project.
The concept for the building volume has been to maximize the length of the facade by extruding the volume in both height and width, using a rational module that create a variety of apartment types. The ground floor is programmed to enhance the life along the lake.
Turning the back side of a shopping mall to the new seafront with a public program. The building volume makes the most of its single aspect location, cantilevers provide apartments with views and daylight in multiple directions
The lakefront development adds new public qualities to the public route along the lake.
The building has a length of almost 200 meters, but extends both in the front and in the back, becoming a three dimensional new facade.
The complex geometry ensures a large variety of apartment sizes and layouts with different qualities catering for different life situations
The south facing lake view is the quality that all the different apartments enjoy, regardless of size and price. Floor heating is introduced to maximize the view and daylight to each terrace.
With its public program and upgraded waterfront, Sjöstaden has become a new destination in Alingsås, combining shopping, leisure and nature.
